Cleaning Methods for Reverse Osmosis Filters

Reverse osmosis filters are a common household water purification device that can effectively filter impurities, bacteria and harmful substances from water to provide safe and clean drinking water. However, after a period of time, the reverse osmosis filter’s internal cartridge and piping will accumulate impurities and dirt, affecting the water purification effect. Therefore, regular cleaning and maintenance of reverse osmosis filters is very necessary. In this article, we will introduce the cleaning methods of reverse osmosis filters in detail to help users better maintain their home water purifiers.

The working principle of reverse osmosis filter

Before understanding the cleaning method, let’s first understand the working principle of reverse osmosis filter. Reverse osmosis filters are mainly filtered through the reverse osmosis membrane, which has a very small pore size (about 0.0001 microns), and is able to filter out most of the impurities in the water, bacteria, viruses and heavy metals and other harmful substances. Reverse osmosis filters usually consist of a pre-treatment cartridge (e.g. PP cotton cartridge, activated carbon cartridge), a reverse osmosis membrane and a post-treatment cartridge (e.g. activated carbon cartridge), each of which carries out a different filtration task.

Frizzlife‘s PD600-TAM3 features a smart LED display and quick change function. The smart display clearly shows the real-time TDS and remaining life of each filter. The built-in TDS system continuously monitors the quality of the drinking water around the clock. As a smart reminder, a color-coded indicator will always remind you to change your filter early. The Frizzlife PD600 RO Filter comes with all the parts included, with well-organized instructions and videos, so you can install or replace the parts on your own in just a few minutes.

Reverse osmosis filter cleaning method

1. Replace the pretreatment cartridge

Pre-treatment cartridges are the first line of defense for water purifiers and are mainly used to filter large particles of impurities, sediment, rust, etc. from the water. These cartridges usually need to be replaced regularly, usually every 3-6 months, the specific replacement frequency can be adjusted according to the water quality and usage.

Replacement steps:

1. Turn off the water inlet valve and power supply of the water purifier.

2. Open the water purifier housing and locate the pre-treatment cartridge.

3. Remove the old cartridge and install the new one. 4.

4. Reinstall the housing, turn on the water inlet valve and power supply, and check for leaks.

2. Clean the reverse osmosis membrane

The reverse osmosis membrane is the core component of the water purifier and requires special attention to maintenance and cleaning. Reverse osmosis membrane cleaning frequency is low, generally every 6 months to 1 year cleaning, depending on the specific time of water quality and use.

Cleaning steps:

1. Close the water inlet valve and power supply of the water purifier.

2. Open the water purifier housing and locate the reverse osmosis membrane assembly.

3. Remove the reverse osmosis membrane and soak the membrane in a special cleaning solution (e.g. citric acid solution) for about 30 minutes.

4. Rinse the Reverse Osmosis Membrane with purified water to ensure that there is no residual cleaning solution.

5. Reinstall the reverse osmosis membrane back into the water purifier, turn on the water inlet valve and power supply, and check the operation of the equipment.

3. Replace the after-treatment cartridge

Post-treatment cartridges are mainly used to further optimize water quality, remove odors and improve taste. The replacement frequency of these cartridges is generally 6 months to 1 year, and the specific replacement frequency can be adjusted according to the usage.

Replacement steps:

1. Turn off the water inlet valve and power supply of the water purifier.

2. Locate the aftertreatment cartridge and open the housing.

3. Remove the old cartridge and install the new one. 4.

4. Reinstall the housing, turn on the water inlet valve and power supply, and check if the unit is operating normally.

4. Clean the water tank and piping

The water tank and piping is an important part of the water purifier and also needs to be cleaned regularly to prevent the accumulation of bacteria and dirt. Thorough cleaning is recommended every 3-6 months.

Cleaning steps:

1. Close the water inlet valve and power supply, and empty the water tank.

2. Clean the inside of the tank and piping with a special cleaning solution or disinfectant (e.g. sodium hypochlorite solution).

3. Rinse with pure water to ensure that there is no residual cleaning or disinfectant solution.

4. Refit the water tank and piping, turn on the water inlet valve and power supply, and check the operation of the equipment.
